Suitability test
Every year, hundreds of Israelis choose to undergo laser vision correction, wishing to improve their quality of life, feel better and look better.
As a medical procedure conducted out of a personal choice to improve one’s quality of life, we consider precise and meticulous suitability testing for the procedure before the operation to be of utmost importance.
How is the suitability test conducted?
The suitability test examines data such as corneal thickness, prescription (optical condition), corneal topography, intra-ocular pressure, eye and retina conditions and physiological issues such as dryness of the eyes, etc.. The suitability test at the Dr. Levinger Eyes medical centers involves a comprehensive diagnosis of the eye, and takes about 3 hours, including wait times.
For some of those examined who are not suitable for laser vision correction surgery, vision can be corrected through intraocular lens implantation.
What are the examination stages?
- We will open a computerized personal file for you and ask you to fill out a detailed health questionnaire.
- A certified medical technician will conduct an examination including eye photography and corneal scanning, using a topography device and CV scanner, the most sophisticated of its kind in the world.
- A senior optometrist, experienced and certified by the Ministry of Health, will conduct an examination of your visual acuity and vision quality.
- You will be asked to watch a film detailing the various surgical methods for eyeglasses removal.
- An ophthalmologist specializing in cornea will conduct a comprehensive eye examination including examination of the corneal structure and thickness; pupil dilation; examination of the eyeball, fundus, and optic nerve; measurement of intraocular pressure and pupil circumference. It is important to inform the doctor if there have been changes in your vision, or if you are currently experiencing vision problems.
- The ophthalmologist will summarize the examination findings.
- A surgical coordinator will provide you with information for preparation and scheduling of surgery.
If you are found suitable for surgery, the doctor will recommend the appropriate type of surgery for you and will align expectations regarding its results, and will also explain possible side effects and risks. If, according to the examination findings, you are not suitable for laser eyeglasses removal surgery, in some cases, alternative methods of eyeglasses removal can be considered, such as intraocular lens implantation.

- You must come to the examination without contact lenses – contact lenses change the shape of the cornea, and therefore affect the examination data.
- You should stop using soft contact lenses at least 72 hours before the examination, hard contact lenses at least 10 days before the examination, and Ortho-K lenses 3 months before the examination. It is recommended to come to the examination with an escort and bring sunglasses, as the examination includes pupil dilation which causes sensitivity to light.
